Ayurveda is the ancient science of self healing from India, believed to be more than 5,000 years old. The Sanskrit word "Ayur" means life, and "Veda" means knowledge or Science so Ayurveda is the Science of Life, or the knowledge of living in harmony with ones internal and external environment. The fundamental spirit of Ayurveda is to be able to understand and heal oneself on the physical, mental and spiritual level, and to understand how these parts of ourselves are in harmony or disharmony with our environment and the macrocosm in general. It is also called a Science of Awareness since it emphasizes the importance of realizing that our own awareness creates, controls, and turns into our bodies. We are fields of intelligence in dynamic exchange with the energy and information of our environment. It is the Way of Living with Awareness.
